KIIT Organises Workshop on Solid Waste Management

KIIT School of Biotechnology (KSBT) organised a workshop on Awareness Building on Solid Waste Management on June 18, 2009.

The workshop was inaugurated by K Jude Sekar, IFS, Additional PCCF (KL), Government of Orissa.

Dr B C Sabat, Scientist, Department of Environment, Delhi, Dr P N Razdan, Pro Vice Chancellor (SOT), KIIT University, Prof S C De Sarkar, Vice Chancellor and Dr M Suar, Director, KSBT were also present.

Sekar said that urban solid waste management in developing countries has been one of the major problems faced by public administration.

Many municipalities have deficient domestic waste collection, poor street cleaning services and improper waste disposal, he pointed out.

Sekar noted that the management of urban solid waste is a serious problem for every organisation. Humans and animals run the risk of disease if urban waste is not properly managed.

Dr Sabat focused on the dangers of careless waste disposal and said that solid waste has emerged as a serious threat to the environment.

A large number of participants from various organisations presented their papers.
